“Dook” [verb]
Scottish slang, meaning to bathe, dip or plunge in cold water, often for a quick swim or a refreshing dip.
The common Scottish tradition known as the ‘looney dook’ typically involves running into the sea on New Years day in order to bring propsperity and good fortune for the new year.
Benefits of sauna
Stress relief
Sauna is an excellent way to unwind and reduce stress, helping to lower cortisol levels (that pesky stress hormone) and promote a deep sense of relaxation in mind and body.
Mental health
Sauna and cold water immersion triggers the release of endorphins, leading to reduced stress, enhanced mood and mental relaxation.
Muscle recovery
Sauna use can increase blood flow, ease muscle tension, and aid in recovery, making the experience ideal for relaxation and muscle repair after sport or physical activity.
Improved sleep
The combination of heat and cold therapy can help to regulate body temperature, promoting relaxation and deeper, more restorative sleep.
Boost immunity
Deep heat found in saunas can significantly stimulate the immune system, reduce viral infections and help those defence systems kick into action to protect the body.
Mental resillience
The intense contrast between hot and cold stimulates the nervous system, improving mental toughness, focus and the ability to handle stress.
Lower blood pressure
The increase in body temperature experienced during a sauna causes blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood flow and improving the function of endothelium in the body.
Detoxification
Sauna promotes sweating, which helps release toxins from the body, while cold water helps tighten the skin and can aid in the body’s natural detox processes.
Expertly crafted, wildly invigorating
Our sauna is expertly designed to bring the perfect balance of heat, steam, and tradition to your outdoor experience. Handcrafted with care, our mobile sauna creates a sanctuary where deep warmth meets the thrill of cold water immersion. Whether you're stepping in to unwind after a wild swim or seeking the ultimate hot-cold contrast, our sauna offers a restorative and revitalising escape in nature.
Our sauna seats 6 people in community sessions, and up to 8 people in private sessions. We know how temperamental the Scottish weather can be, so you’ll be relieved to know that we offer a changing space and storage facilities for your personal belongings.
“Amazing experience, Mhairi was a great host and made us feel so at home. I loved the layout of the sauna and the changing area was a game changer, it made me feel so much more comfortable.”

Commitment to the GSA Biosphere
Wild Dook Sauna is proud to be part of the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere — a place that celebrates the connection between people, nature and sustainable living. For us, being a Proud Supporter isn’t just a badge; it reflects the way we already choose to work. Our whole business is built around helping people experience the landscape in a calm, respectful and meaningful way and the Biosphere’s values align perfectly with that.
The Biosphere itself is doing incredible work across the region: supporting local businesses, protecting wildlife and habitats, promoting responsible tourism and helping communities thrive in a way that’s good for both people and the environment. By being part of the Proud Supporter network, we’re connected to that bigger picture - a shared effort to look after this place for the long term.
For us, this means keeping our footprint light, sourcing locally and operating in a way that respects the coastline and communities we work in. It also means helping our guests understand what makes this area so special. Many people who visit us have never heard of a UNESCO Biosphere before, so we use our hosted sauna sessions to share its story, highlight the landscape around them and encourage responsible enjoyment of the outdoors.
You’ll see the Proud Supporter logo on our website and social channels because we are part of the collective commitment to protecting the character, culture and natural beauty of Galloway and Southern Ayrshire. Being a Proud Supporter feels like a natural extension of who we are as a business and why we do what we do.
